In a unified declaration, legislators representing Delta North in the Delta State House of Assembly, alongside the nine local government chairmen from the district, have firmly rejected suggestions linking the proposed Anioma State to the South-East geopolitical zone.
The group, after extensive deliberations on the ongoing national debate over state creation, issued a strongly worded statement reaffirming their long-standing commitment to an autonomous Anioma State one they insist must remain firmly within the South-South region.
According to the leaders, the agitation for Anioma State is not a recent political trend but a historic aspiration handed down by generations of Anioma elders and visionaries who championed the preservation of the region’s cultural identity, language, and development priorities. They stressed that the renewed push reflects a collective desire to fulfil the “political and developmental destiny” of the Anioma people.
Reiterating their total support for the creation of Anioma State, the lawmakers and council chairmen pledged to deploy their full political influence to advance all legitimate efforts toward its establishment. They also clarified the exact composition of the proposed state, stating that it must comprise the existing nine local government areas in Delta North with Asaba as the capital.
The LGAs are:
Aniocha North
Aniocha South
Ika North-East
Ika South
Ndokwa East
Ndokwa West
Oshimili North
Oshimili South
Ukwuani
The leaders stressed that Anioma “is, and must remain, in the South-South,” describing any suggestion of merging the district or its proposed state with the South-East as completely unacceptable.
They vowed to resist any attempt to alter the geopolitical alignment of the region, insisting that their position is final and collectively endorsed.
