Delta NUT Launches Bomadi Leadership

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State Chapter, Comrade Poubeni Dickson, has reaffirmed the union’s commitment to maintaining peaceful and productive engagement with the state government for the benefit of teachers and the overall advancement of education.

Dickson made the statement during the inauguration of the newly elected NUT Chairman for Bomadi Local Government Area, Comrade Godwin Asiagbe, held in Bomadi. He stressed that continued collaboration between the union, state authorities, and local councils is essential for accelerating educational development across Delta State.

The state NUT chairman also highlighted key challenges affecting teachers, including insecurity in schools due to the absence of perimeter fencing and security personnel, the union’s lack of representation on governing councils of state-owned educational institutions, and the stagnation of university-graduate teachers in primary schools who remain stuck at salary grade level 14 with no career progression.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Asiagbe promised to fulfill his campaign commitments, describing them as the foundation of effective and purposeful leadership. He identified pressing issues affecting teachers in Bomadi LGA, such as delayed promotions, inadequate school funding, the need for proper send-off ceremonies for retirees, and the construction of a teachers’ lodge. He assured that his administration, in collaboration with the NUT executive and relevant stakeholders, would work to meet the expectations of members.

Asiagbe called for collective support from union members, emphasizing that building a stronger NUT in Bomadi is a shared responsibility. He also thanked the Executive Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council for providing continuous support, understanding, and a peaceful environment during the election process.

The new chairman commended NUT members in the LGA for their unity, maturity, and cooperation throughout the election period and paid tribute to his predecessor for his valuable contributions to the union.

Other members of the newly inaugurated Bomadi NUT executive include Deputy Chairman Etinagbedia Matthew, Secretary Ogodobiri Philomena, and Treasurer Kpokpo Judith Eyorokpoebimi.
