Delta Police Chief Commissions Ultra‑Modern Warri Area Command Complex

The immediate past Commissioner of Police in Delta State and newly promoted Assistant Inspector‑General of Police (AIG), Olufemi Abaniwonda, has commissioned a newly constructed ultra‑modern Warri Area Command complex, describing the facility as a significant advancement for policing and security in the region.

Abaniwonda said the complex represents the positive outcomes that come from effective cooperation between the police and residents.

“This facility represents a beacon of hope, a symbol of excellence, and a promise of protection. It’s a place where our dedicated officers will work tirelessly to serve and protect, utilising cutting‑edge technology and innovative strategies to keep our neighbourhood safe,” he said.

According to Abaniwonda, the development aligns with the goals of community policing, an initiative launched over 20 years ago to promote stronger engagement between law enforcement and local communities.

He urged officers to make full use of the good relationships with their host communities to enhance service delivery.

“Your cooperation ensures that policemen can secure lives and property for law‑abiding residents,” Abaniwonda added.

The Warri Area Commander, ACP Graham Imade, who managed the construction project, said that the previous police facility was inadequate, prompting the need for a modern headquarters.

“When I assumed responsibility as the Area Commander, Warri, I felt the urgent need to improve the working environment of my police personnel by intervening in the infrastructures which at that time, were not befitting the status of the Area Command,” Imade said.

Imade explained that he mobilised support from “friends and critical stakeholders” to achieve the goal, underscoring that security is a collective responsibility.

“Security is everyone’s business and the foundation upon which development thrives,” he stated.

Describing the new facility, he said:

“The building we are commissioning today consists of 10 new offices, one armoury, a spacious hall for meetings and training, and thirteen toilets.”

He also expressed deep appreciation to all who supported the project.

“Your generosity and commitment to the safety of our community are truly commendable. Your investment in the facility is a testament to the power of community spirit and the impact we can have when we work together,” Imade said.

Imade concluded by urging continued collaboration with the police to maintain peace and develop the community.

“Let us continue to work hand in hand to build a safer, more secure, and prosperous community for all. If you see something, say something,” he said.
