The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected cultist/armed robber, a suspect in possession of illicit drugs in Asaba and recovered some ammunition in the process.
A statement released on Tuesday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, read; “Acting on credible intelligence on the peddling of arms and an intended cult clash within Oteri community in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State, on 14/06/2024 at about 1430hrs operatives on special assignment deployed to Ughelli led by ASP Julius Robinson trailed a notorious cultist and a mastermind of the intended cult clash to a hotel (name withheld) in Ughelli and the suspect one Felix Egbe ‘m’ aged 37yrs of Oteri Community in Ughelli North LGA Delta State and a member of Eiye confraternity also former Youth Secretary of Oteri Community Ughelli North Delta State was arrested. Upon interrogation, suspect took operatives to his residence where a Barretta pistol was recovered. Investigation is ongoing.
The statement read further; “On the 18/6/2024, about 0120hrs, operatives of Aladja police out-station received a distress call that some suspected armed robbers were carrying out a robbery operation in Aladja community. The district officer(D/O) alongside members of the community mobilized to the scene where the suspects Lucky Victor ‘m’ aged 20yrs and Godbless Oghenevegba ‘m’ aged 20yrs were arrested at Igwere quarters Aladja. One locally made gun, cartridges, knife and a suspected stolen phone were recovered from them. Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.
In another development, according to the statement; “On the 13/06/2024 at about 1400hrs, acting on credible information received on an outlet for distribution of illicit hard drugs in Asaba. Operatives from the CP Monitoring unit responded and went to the scene where the following persons were arrested; Emeka Ozumu ‘m’ aged 49yrs, and Patrick Otukam ‘m’ 30yrs. Thirteen (13) bottles of Codeine, and twenty-three (23) sachets of Tramadol and other hard drugs were recovered from them. Investigation is ongoing
According to Edafe, the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda urged youths in the state to shun all form of crime and also stay away from substance/drug abuse as it is dangerous to their health and also capable of pushing them to commit various crimes.
The CP further noted that operatives of Crack squad, CP monitoring, and raiders squad have been deployed to crack down on drug peddling hideouts in the state and anyone found wanting will be arrested and charged to court.
