The Delta State Police Command has taken into custody a police officer seen in a viral video recklessly shooting at the tire of a moving car near Toscana Hotel on Okpanam Road in Asaba.
The footage, which quickly stirred anger on social media, showed the officer firing at the vehicle while it was in traffic, putting the lives of nearby pedestrians and drivers at risk.
Confirming the incident on X (formerly Twitter), the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, strongly condemned the officer’s behavior, calling it “embarrassing, shameful, careless, and unprofessional.”
“In all honesty, this behavior is embarrassing, shameful, reckless, and completely unprofessional. There’s no excuse for it. The officer has been identified, taken into custody, and is set to appear before the CP today,” Edafe said.
He assured that the Commissioner of Police has directed a thorough investigation into the incident and that the necessary disciplinary actions will be taken according to police service rules.
While the driver’s offense is still unclear at the time of this report, the command confirmed that the officer involved is currently in custody.
