Delta Police Command Nab Four Suspected Kidnappers, Recover AK-47, Vehicles and Network Jammer

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against violent crimes, with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and members of an armed robbery syndicate.

Recovered during the operations were one AK-47 rifle, the vehicle of a kidnap victim, the suspects’ operational car, and a network jammer used to obstruct communications.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the first breakthrough came on September 12, when operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan, CSP Labe Joseph, acting on intelligence, apprehended two suspects: 36-year-old Elvis Ebroghro and 34-year-old Abiola Adegore, both residents of Ometan.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had earlier attempted to steal a vehicle battery on September 11 and threatened to kill a community security guard, Abdullahi Mohammed, who confronted them. Based on confessions, the police arrested another suspect, Lucky Ebroghro. A follow-up search led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle hidden in an isolated building in Ometan.

In another operation, the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, responded to a distress call on September 8 after a young man was abducted from his Ogwashi-Uku residence. Despite paying a ransom of ₦2 million, the victim was shot in the leg by his captors. He was later rescued with gunshot injuries during a bush raid by the police.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Chukwuebuka Nka, 25, from Enugu State, and Uche Okechukwu from Imo State, along Owerri Road, Anambra. The victim’s white Venza SUV was recovered from them. Acting on their confessions, police arrested 18-year-old Somto Chukwuma in Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku, and recovered the gang’s operational Toyota Matrix (registration number RRT-331-AE) alongside a network jammer.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the professionalism of the operatives and assured residents that the Command remains determined to rid Delta State of criminal elements. He emphasized that there would be “no safe haven for criminals” as the Command intensifies efforts to dismantle networks threatening peace and security.
