The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has once again emphasized that the longstanding ban on fireworks remains fully in effect as the Command intensifies efforts to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season.
CP Abaniwonda noted that the prohibition covers the use, sale, and public display of all forms of pyrotechnics, including commonly used firecrackers such as “knockouts” and “bangers.”
He explained that these items are often exploited by criminals to create confusion or disguise their activities, making the ban a crucial part of crime-prevention strategies during the Yuletide.
Parents and guardians have been urged to warn their children and wards against using fireworks, while traders have been cautioned to immediately stop selling them.
According to the Command, anyone caught violating the directive will face arrest, prosecution, and confiscation of their goods.
In line with this renewed enforcement, the Commissioner has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alongside all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Unit leaders, to ensure strict compliance across their jurisdictions.
CP Abaniwonda expressed appreciation to residents of Delta State for their support and cooperation so far.
He encouraged the public to continue reporting any use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station or through the Command’s control room via the following numbers:
08036684974
08114895600
08025666914
He also extended warm wishes to all Deltans for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
