Delta Police Command Records Breakthroughs in Fight Against Crime in Ughelli Axis

The Delta State Police Command has announced a series of successful operations leading to the arrest of suspected armed robbers, drug dealers, and the recovery of stolen vehicles, firearms, and large consignments of illicit drugs in the Ughelli area.

Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement, reaffirming the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to rid the state of criminal networks and restore peace to troubled communities.

According to the report, on August 26, operatives arrested members of a five-man gang notorious for terrorizing Agbarho/Otor and surrounding areas. The suspects, led by gang leader Samson Ugbe, popularly known as Big Man, were apprehended after robbing a resident of electronics, phones, and other valuables. Recovered items included a 65-inch television, laptops, and two vehicles linked to past robberies in Oghara and Oroye.

A day earlier, on August 25, police arrested two men identified as Henry Bernard and Justice Ayero in Udu Local Government Area for allegedly robbing a motorcycle rider at gunpoint. A follow-up search uncovered a single-barrel gun, hacksaws, a dagger, and other tools believed to have been used in their operations.

Similarly, on August 29, officers raided the home of a suspected drug dealer, Egbule Isioma, in Afisere, Ughelli. Over 350 bottles of codeine, hundreds of rolls of tramadol, cannabis, and other illicit substances were seized. Three of her apprentices were also taken into custody.

In another breakthrough, the police apprehended 35-year-old Igenebo John on August 24 while attempting to sell a stolen Lexus RX350 and Mercedes-Benz GLK350 at suspiciously low prices. Investigations later revealed the vehicles had been snatched at gunpoint in Sapele along with valuables worth millions of naira.

The Police Command assured residents that investigations are ongoing and pledged to intensify the crackdown on criminal elements across Delta State. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to support ongoing security efforts.
