The Delta State Police Command has announced significant achievements in its fight against crime across the state, with multiple arrests and recoveries made in August 2025.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Asaba, Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, PSC, said the Command’s operations were in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, to ensure Deltans sleep with both eyes closed. He noted that the state had become “very hot for criminals,” assuring residents that security operatives will not relent in pursuing and bringing offenders to justice.
According to the CP, the Command recorded several notable successes, including:
Armed Robbery Arrests and Firearms Recovery: Multiple suspected armed robbers were apprehended, with recoveries including pump-action rifles, double-barrel guns, Beretta pistols, and live cartridges. In one case, operatives recovered two stolen vehicles and apprehended a gang leader long on the Command’s wanted list.
Foiling of Syndicates: Police disrupted fraud and robbery syndicates operating across Warri, Ughelli, and Edo State. Arrested suspects were found with stolen phones, vehicles, motorcycles, jewelry, and were linked to fraud totaling over ₦23.5 million.
Drug Trafficking Bust: A raid in Ughelli led to the arrest of a suspected female drug baron and her accomplices. Items recovered included over 355 bottles of codeine, hundreds of rolls of tramadol, cannabis, and other controlled substances.
Ex-Convict Rearrested: An ex-convict, who had served a two-year jail term for motorcycle theft, was arrested again just days after release for stealing another motorcycle.

Recovery of Stolen Vehicles: Several high-value vehicles, including Mercedes-Benz and Lexus SUVs, were recovered following intelligence-led operations in Ughelli, Asaba, and other parts of the state.
Community Security Efforts: Collaborative efforts with local vigilante groups and the Nigeria Hunters Security Services aided the recovery of stolen properties and arrest of suspects.

CP Abaniwonda commended operatives for their resilience and urged residents to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious movements to the police through control room hotlines.
“We remain committed to ensuring Delta State is safe for all, and criminal elements will find no hiding place,” he declared.
