The Delta State Police Command has announced a string of major successes in its ongoing operations against crime across the state, resulting in the arrest of 95 suspects, recovery of firearms, and rescue of kidnap victims.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Asaba, where he commended his officers for their commitment to intelligence-led policing and rapid response strategies.

Kidnap Ring Busted in Ughelli North
Operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) engaged a gang of suspected kidnappers in a gun battle at their hideout in Ughelli North LGA. Two suspects were neutralized while an AK-47 rifle, magazines, 43 rounds of ammunition, a pump-action gun, and a locally made pistol were recovered. Two policemen sustained injuries but are currently receiving treatment.
Kidnap Victim Rescued in Ogwashi-Uku
In another operation, the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad rescued a victim and recovered her Toyota Venza SUV. The suspects, Chukwuebuka Nka (25) and Uche Okechukwu, were arrested after allegedly collecting a ₦2 million ransom. A network jammer and other exhibits were also seized.
Illicit Drugs Seized in Transit
Working in collaboration with the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, police officers intercepted a truck carrying a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs. The driver, identified as Dennis Uruma, 52, from Kogi State, has been detained for interrogation.
Two Suspected Kidnappers Neutralized in Boji-Boji Owa
A joint operation with Operation Delta Sweep resulted in the neutralization of two more kidnapping suspects. Officers recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 40 rounds of live ammunition.
Church Burglary Syndicate Smashed
On September 16, police intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna van in Ogwashi-Uku and arrested Emmanuel Emiowor (21) and Noah Philip (20), both from Warri. Several locally made guns, a pump-action gun, a revolver, an iron rod, and stolen musical instruments used in church break-ins were recovered.
Cultists and Armed Robbers Arrested
12 suspected cultists were arrested in Jesse with weapons including a Beretta pistol and live ammunition.
Multiple armed robbery suspects were nabbed across Asaba, Ibusa, and Ogwashi-Uku, leading to the recovery of fabricated pistols and shotguns.
Abducted Girl Reunited with Family
A young girl identified as Rebecca Mathew, abducted from Bodinga in Niger State, was rescued in Oza-Nogogo community. Her abductor, Bila Halili, who reportedly hypnotized her, has been arrested. The victim has since been reunited with her family.
CP Abaniwonda Reassures Residents
CP Abaniwonda praised his officers and assured residents that the Command will not relent in its efforts to make Delta State unsafe for criminals.
“Our mission is clear—to make Delta State unsafe for criminals. We will continue to intensify our operations, collaborate with sister security agencies, and engage communities in proactive policing,” he said.
