The Delta State Police Command has thwarted an attempted kidnap and recovered firearms and ammunition following a discreet operation carried out by its Special Assignment Team.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the command said operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team acted on credible intelligence to raid a suspected criminal hideout located along a bush path in the Upper Agbarho area of the state.
According to the statement, intelligence reports revealed that about six suspected kidnappers were operating in the area, prompting a carefully coordinated operation at about 9:35 p.m. on January 11, 2026.
The operation, led by Julius Robinson in collaboration with local vigilantes, encountered resistance when the suspects allegedly opened fire upon sighting the police team. The officers were said to have responded with superior firepower, forcing the suspects to escape into the surrounding area with varying degrees of injury.
The command disclosed that the fleeing suspects abandoned their weapons and other incriminating items at the scene. Recovered exhibits included one FNC rifle loaded with a live round and one pump-action gun containing thirty-two rounds of live cartridges. All recovered items have since been secured by the police, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, praised the operatives for their bravery and effective use of intelligence.
He reaffirmed the command’s determination to deny criminals any operational space, warning that Delta State would remain hostile to all forms of criminal activity.
The police further assured residents of continued and intensified efforts to combat kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.
