Fewer than 68 traffic offenders were prosecuted on Saturday at Mobile Courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as at the Magistrate Court in Okwe, Delta State.
The action followed a clampdown on traffic violations across major roads in the state by the Delta State Police Command, working alongside designated judges and magistrates. This forms part of the government’s effort to address the growing rate of traffic offences and improve road safety.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday.
According to the statement, those arrested were involved in various offences. These included seven individuals charged with unauthorised use of number plates, five for driving against traffic, 15 for using vehicles without registration numbers, two for illegal use of sirens and flashing lights, 15 for road obstruction, 13 for covering number plates, and 11 for driving without valid licences.
The police noted that vehicles with concealed or unregistered plates are often linked to criminal activities and used to evade security checks.
All offenders were fined in line with the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations, underscoring the penalties for breaking traffic rules.
The command also said it is deepening cooperation with the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency to reduce traffic violations and boost public safety.
It added that the partnership is designed to improve coordination in enforcement, cut down road incidents, and enhance security statewide.
Motorists were advised to obey traffic rules, properly register their vehicles, and always carry valid driver’s licences. The police reiterated their zero-tolerance approach to traffic offences, warning that strict enforcement will continue to ensure safety and order on the roads.
