Delta Police, Operation Delta Sweep Neutralize Kidnappers in Joint Raid

A joint security operation in Delta State has delivered a decisive blow against kidnapping activities, with two suspected kidnappers neutralized and an assault rifle recovered.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the breakthrough came on Wednesday morning following credible intelligence that armed men were sighted around Nniogbo, Owa Ekei, Boji Boji Owa.

Acting swiftly on the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owa-Oyibu mobilized a joint team comprising police operatives, local vigilantes, and two units from Operation Delta Sweep.

On arrival at the location, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the advancing security operatives, prompting a fierce gun battle. The exchange left two members of the kidnap gang fatally wounded. They were later confirmed dead at Owa-Alero General Hospital, where they were rushed for medical attention.
Items recovered at the scene include one AK-47 rifle, forty rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and two magazines.

Authorities say the recovery underscores the gang’s level of preparedness and the threat posed to communities before the intervention.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.

He added that the successful raid highlights the importance of intelligence-led policing and the collaboration between state security formations and community-based networks.

Edafe reassured residents that the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, remains committed to ensuring that Delta State does not become a safe haven for criminal elements.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s communication channels.

The manhunt for the remaining suspects continues as security agencies intensify operations across identified black spots in the state.
