Delta Police Report Major Gains in Crackdown on Cultism, Illegal Arms and Drug Hotspots

The Delta State Police Command says it has achieved significant progress in its ongoing fight against cult activities, illegal firearms and drug-related offences, following a successful arms recovery operation in Abraka and the arraignment of eighteen suspects linked to drug peddling.

According to the Command, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) acted on credible intelligence on Saturday and stormed No. 2 Umeaghe Community in Abraka.

During the search, officers recovered two pump-action guns and thirty-nine live cartridges from the home of 67-year-old Isiakpere Friday. He was immediately taken into custody as investigations expand to uncover possible connections with cult groups, arms dealers or other criminal networks.

In a parallel operation, the Command’s Buffalo Unit intensified raids on drug hotspots across the state. Officers targeted areas notorious for illicit substance activity, including the play-learn zone, the Sweet Spirit axis and Pinnacle Junction.

Eighteen male suspects were arrested during the coordinated sweep. They were arraigned in court on December 5 and subsequently remanded in prison custody until they meet their bail conditions.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the professionalism and commitment of the teams involved in the operations. He reiterated that the Command remains fully committed to reducing cultism, tackling drug abuse and stopping the spread of illegal weapons in Delta State.

Abaniwonda also appealed to residents to continue sharing reliable information with security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in sustaining the momentum against crime.
