The Delta State Police Command says it has made significant progress in its clampdown on crime and drug-related activities, arresting 272 suspects in coordinated raids across Warri and Ughelli.
This was revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, who explained that the operations were part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across the state.
He said that on March 25, 2026, a team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alongside the Buffalo Operational Team and other tactical units, carried out raids in known crime hotspots in Warri South, Uvwie, and Okpe Local Government Areas.
Acting on credible intelligence from the State Intelligence Department, the officers targeted hideouts in Ugbrumu and Jeddo communities, arresting 59 suspects 51 men and eight women.
According to the police, several of the raided locations, including a bush bar and some hotels, were being used as brothels and bases for criminal activities. Some of the suspects were also identified as suspected cultists already under surveillance.
During the operation, officers recovered substances believed to be codeine, crack cocaine, “loud,” “colos,” and Indian hemp.
In a separate operation on March 26, 2026, DCP Adejobi led another joint team including operatives from the Crack Squad, Rapid Response Squad, and Buffalo Squad on raids in Ughelli.
This exercise also relied on actionable intelligence and focused on known drug hotspots such as Epini Hotel along the Ughelli–Patani Expressway, Torsac Hotel, and Primaria Guest House.
The raid resulted in the arrest of 213 additional suspects, with authorities again discovering that many of the locations were being used as brothels and centers for criminal activity.
Police recovered large quantities of suspected drugs, including Canadian loud, CSC syrup, tramadol, swinol, and Indian hemp.
The Command stated that all suspects and seized items have been transferred to the appropriate units, including the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division in Ughelli, the Rapid Response Squad, and the CP Special Assignment Team for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law and reiterated the Command’s commitment to continuing similar operations across the state, including in Sapele and nearby areas.
He also urged the public to keep providing timely and reliable information, stressing that community support is crucial in tackling crime and maintaining safety.
