Delta Polytechnic Council suspends rector over alleged financial misappropriation, gross-misconduct

Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Rector, Buldr. (Prof) Emmanuel Achuenu has been suspended for six months by the school Governing Council over alleged financial misappropriation and Gross-Misconduct.

Chairman, Governing Council Hon. (Pastor) Paul Adingwupu, made the declaration in a letter of which copies where sent to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Higher Education.

The letter had recalled that following the Rector’s report of reckless spending, without the Council’s approval for accreditation, the Council at its 56th meeting resolved and issued him a query for explanation on 16th April, 2025. But the council however declared the response to the query by rector unsatisfactory.

The council issued him another letter dated 30th June, 2025, stating thirteen (13) items of gross misconduct and financial improprieties and requested he appears before it on Thursday, 3rd July 2025 to give his defense but refused to appear before the Council.

The Council however, unanimously suspended Buldr. (Prof) Achuenu, from office as Rector, for a period of six months taking effect from 4th July, 2025, ordering him to hand over all properties of the Polytechnic to the Deputy Rector with immediate effect.

Responding, Prof. Achuenu said the allegations were baseless, that he was appointed to develop the school and that he has been doing for the past years.

The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Higher Education, Prof. Nyerovwo Tonikari, who was also contacted on the allegations said government is already on the matter, saying that the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government are already aware and that the school has an excellent accreditation record.
