Tosan Blankson, head coach of Delta Queens has issued a rallying call to his players as to what their ultimate goal is for the Super Six as he advocates for more National team involvement for NWFL players.
Having finished the NWFL season unbeaten and top of their group, the tactician had six (6) of his players invited to the National under 20 team, a credit that will be given to the coach who has groomed and developed them.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng, Tosan Blankson spoke in-depth of the team’s present objective even after achieving a milestone of an unbeaten season as they look to take the CAF continental ticket.
“Coaching any of the national female team is a selfish interest but producing players to the various national teams is a call to duty which I’m beyond proud to do.”
“You cannot attain to the highest level and leave your children behind, attention should be paid to your children first,” Tosan Blankson stated.
On how he feels after the invitation of his players;
“There’s no coach that will not be happy seeing his or her players invited to the national team be it senior or junior and I want to thank the coaches for looking towards Delta Queens players for the invitation because I know they won’t disappoint,” he said assuredly.
“Two of them were in the under 17 team that won bronze medal in India, so going through the regular season undefeated should also count why some of them where invited, their performances and the results to show speaks volume.”
“The players did well in the regular season but the job is yet undone. Just 1% of the job concluded, until the Super Six is won we don’t believe any history has been made,” said the coach after his team appraisal by the public by fans and football lovers.
With many tipping them for a continental spot;
“If by paper Delta Queens is being picked to win the Super Six and represent the country in CAF, I believe the current form of the players has given them that edge.”
“But one thing I know about the girls is that a decision has been made collectively that they will finish the season high.”
“All the teams that qualified for the Super 6 are potential Champions and the end will definitely justify the means.”
On his take on foreign coaches to the National team;
“Nothing wrong bringing foreign coaches to handle the women team, but something wrong not assembling a senior National team on ground coached by an indigenous to struggle for a place in the team.”
“As of today with the current form of Flourish Sebastian of Bayelsa Queens she should be playing in the Women team just to mention but a few,” he concluded in his last phrase to advocate for more involvement of NWFL players.
