Residents of Delta State have been assured of improved security following a coordinated military operation on Monday that led to the arrest of a suspected native doctor and several others linked to criminal activities in parts of the state.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 63 Brigade under Operation Delta Safe, following intelligence reports on the activities of a criminal network operating around Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Military officials added:
“Their arrest was effected following credible intelligence on the nefarious activities of the criminal gang in a recent operation conducted around Ibusa.”
The command also provided details on the weapons recovered during the operation and subsequent follow-up exercises in neighbouring communities:
“During the operations, several weapons were recovered, including two pump-action rifles from the criminals, and an additional three pump-action rifles from purported local vigilantes. The suspects and recovered weapons have been handed over to the relevant agency for further investigation. Furthermore, follow-up operations led to the recovery of an additional eight pump-action rifles at Umuisiagba.”
According to military authorities, a total of 13 suspects, including a native doctor, were arrested during the coordinated operation.
Troops confirmed that all suspects and recovered weapons have been transferred to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Officials reassured residents that security operations would continue in collaboration with other agencies and local communities to curb criminal activities and improve public safety across Delta State.
