Residents of Egbokodo Itsekiri Community in Warri South LGA, Delta State, have stated that a suspected armed robber, Emmanuel Solomon, was actually caught by locals and handed over to the police on March 9 about three weeks before the police officially announced the arrest.
In a statement issued on March 26, police spokesperson Bright Edafe said officers from the ‘A’ Division prevented an attempted robbery in the area and recovered two firearms along with live ammunition from the suspect.
However, the community, through a notice signed by Philip Amanoritsewor, chairman of the Egbokodo Itsekiri Youth Development Association, explained that residents apprehended the suspect while he was allegedly trying to rob a household and promptly handed him over to authorities.
The community also shared video evidence showing the suspect believed to have come from the Effurun/Ekpan area sitting shirtless on the ground with his hands tied. They added that one of his accomplices managed to escape.
Reiterating its firm stance against crime, the community urged residents to continue abiding by the law and noted that it is closely following the case to see how it unfolds.
