Delta Residents Urged to Clean Surroundings During January Sanitation Exercise

The Delta State Government has announced that the January 2026 Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise will take place statewide on Saturday, January 31, 2026. During the exercise, movement will be restricted between 7:00am and 10:00am.

In a special statement, the government said there will be no vehicular or pedestrian movement during the sanitation period, calling on residents to clean their surroundings to help prevent the spread of diseases.

Residents were encouraged to clear overgrown weeds, desilt drainages, and maintain a clean environment. The government also reminded citizens that it is their civic responsibility to clean up to a 20-metre radius around their homes and business premises. The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, along with officials from the ministry and other relevant agencies, will be on the ground to monitor compliance across the state.

The government warned that anyone who fails to take part in the exercise will be prosecuted at the Mobile Magistrate Courts and fined as appropriate. Residents were therefore urged to fully participate in the exercise to help create a cleaner and healthier Delta State.
