The Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS), Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, has expressed optimism that the agency will surpass its revenue target for the 2025 fiscal year, following a strong performance in the first half of the year.
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Ighrakpata revealed that between January and June 2025, the DSIRS collected a total of ₦104,080,603,826.74, a significant increase compared to the ₦78,017,546,571.06 collected during the same period in 2024. This represents a year-on-year increase of ₦26,063,057,255.68, translating to 133.41% performance.
According to him, the agency has already achieved 77.62% of its 2025 annual revenue target of ₦134,092,848,109, as set out in the state budget.
Hon. Ighrakpata attributed the impressive revenue performance to several key factors, including the prudent application of tax revenue by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to execute visible projects across the three senatorial districts of the state, as well as the dedication and teamwork of the DSIRS board and management.

He also praised the role of lead consultants—ICMA Professional Services and Zopaz Advisory Services—for their technical support in enhancing internal revenue generation in the state.
The DSIRS chairman highlighted the board’s initiatives aimed at deepening tax compliance and broadening the revenue base. These include stakeholder engagements, taxpayer education and sensitization campaigns, the implementation of a whistleblower policy, and the establishment of specialized units such as the Intelligence Gathering and Compliance Monitoring Unit, the Tax Investigation Unit, and the Tax Audit Review Committee (TARC).
Hon. Ighrakpata extended his appreciation to stakeholders—federal and state MDAs, security agencies, financial institutions, the organized private sector, unions, trade associations, professional bodies, traditional institutions, and local governments—for their continued cooperation and civic responsibility in paying taxes.
He stressed that the growing IGR has empowered the state to fund people-oriented projects under the Governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda, emphasizing that the DSIRS remains committed to building on the gains already achieved.
It will be recalled that the DSIRS also exceeded its revenue target in 2024, marking a trend of consistent improvement under the current administration.
