Delta State’s Director General on Security Matters, Hon. David Tonwe, has restated the government’s firm commitment to maintaining peace and order as the festive season approaches.
He said the state has intensified security operations, with Operation Delta Sweep now positioned at key hotspots to discourage criminal activities and swiftly arrest anyone involved in drug abuse, cultism, kidnapping or any behaviour that could disrupt public peace.
Tonwe explained that the holidays often come with an increase in social vices, making vigilance even more important.
He urged parents and guardians to pay close attention to their children’s movements and associations, noting that community awareness plays a critical role in preventing crime.
According to him, the festive period “should be a season of joy, not fear,” and he encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious behaviour to the appropriate authorities.
He further highlighted that Operation Delta Sweep has received additional support in recent months, including more vehicles and enhanced collaboration among security agencies.
These reinforcements, he said, are designed to boost operational efficiency and ensure officers can respond quickly across the state, especially during the ember months when travel and social activities increase.
Tonwe also assured the public that all arrests made by the task force are handled according to due process, with suspects transferred to relevant agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.
Security analysts have noted that consistent patrols and improved cooperation between communities and security operatives have contributed to reducing incidents in several areas.
Tonwe echoed this view, appealing for continued public support as the state sustains heightened security measures throughout the holiday period.
