The Delta State Security Council has announced a significant reduction in kidnapping cases across the state, pledging a more secure environment as the ember months approach.
Speaking to journalists after the Council’s meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba, Commander of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abdulmoshood Shonibare, credited the improvement to enhanced collaboration between security agencies, traditional rulers, and local government authorities.
“Delta State is calmer than it was a few months ago. The cases of kidnappings have dramatically reduced, and cultists no longer have a foothold here,” Shonibare stated.
He highlighted a recent joint operation with the Police Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad that rescued three abducted students unharmed, killed two suspected kidnappers, and recovered two AK-47 rifles, magazines, and 16 rounds of ammunition.
The Brigade Commander also revealed ongoing efforts to intercept fleeing criminals, including members of the proscribed IPOB group, while ramping up anti-drug operations in crime-prone areas such as Ughelli, Abraka, and Warri.
