The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, warmly received a high-powered delegation from the Bayelsa State House of Assembly led by its Speaker, Rt. Hon. (High Chief) Abraham Ingobere, for a five-day inter-state legislative retreat in Asaba.
Declaring that “Bayelsa and Delta are more than neighbours; we are family,” Rt. Hon. Guwor stressed the shared history, culture, festivals, cuisine, environmental degradation and developmental challenges that bind both oil-producing states.
“We share the same tapestry of history and the same environmental and developmental battles. As oil-producing states, we must collaborate to protect our people and our land,” he stated.
The retreat, themed “Leadership, Stakeholder Management, and Socio-economic Growth in Bayelsa State,” is moderated by the Africa Parliamentary Resource Centre under the leadership of Dr. John E. Mutu.
Guwor described the theme as apt, saying it addresses the daily realities of lawmakers and will equip participants with fresh ideas for effective governance. He urged deeper legislative partnership in environmental protection, resource governance and economic opportunities.
In his remarks, Bayelsa Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, thanked the Delta Assembly and facilitators for the platform, reiterating commitment to translating the knowledge gained into tangible socio-economic growth for Bayelsa.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the Bayelsa House, Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou-Edwin Obolo, commended Speaker Ingobere for sustaining capacity-building programmes that sharpen legislative competence and service delivery.
The retreat, which ends November 22, features keynote addresses, technical sessions on leadership, legislative frameworks, stakeholder engagement and governance challenges facing the Niger Delta.
