Delta State Sports Commission has defended its 2026 budget estimates at the inter-ministeral budget defense in Asaba, Delta State.
The exercise which is being coordinated by the ministry of economic planning with Mr Sunny Ekadeyan, the commissioner as chairman of the budget defense committee, commenced sitting this week with heads of MDAs making presentation and defense of their proposed estimates of capital and recurrent expenditure as well as targeted revenues for 2026 .
Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori who was represented at the budget defense by the functioning Director General of the Commission, Emuobo Igalase, expressed delight that the exercise went smoothly.
Oborevwori who was silent on the proposed allocation for the Delta State Sports Commission for 2026, said that provision was made for the 10th National Youth Games, to be hosted by the state in 2026.
Reflecting on the scorecard of the commission in the outgoing year, he said the state did very well in the various national sporting competitions including the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, and the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba.
Oborevwori highlighted some of the key projects budgeted for in 2026 allocations for sports to include completion of ongoing sports projects, Warri Township Stadium, mini sports arena centres that the commission is working on ahead several national competitions to be hosted by the State.
”We have successfully defended the 2026 budget estimates for the Delta State Sports Commission. The budget estimates comprise capital and recurrent expenditure.
In the sports sector, Delta has done very well in the outgoing year. I am sure we are all living witnesses to the success story…
There are key priority recurrent and capital projects that we are working on , especially the mini sports arena that we are working on. And , you know that next year, we are having a lot of national competitions.”, Oborevwori stated.
