Delta State Bans Valentine’s Day Parties in Secondary Schools

The Delta State Government has banned the celebration of Valentine’s Day parties in both public and private secondary schools across the state, citing concerns over their potential negative effects on students’ academic performance and moral conduct.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, the government expressed worry over the growing trend of organizing Valentine-themed events by students and teachers within school premises. According to the commissioner, such activities do little to promote academic excellence.

Dr. Ashibogwu stressed that students should focus their time and energy on productive learning and teaching activities, rather than events that could distract them or disrupt the academic environment.

He also called on school authorities to avoid programs that might cause learning setbacks and reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing educational standards. The commissioner emphasized that any activity seen as undermining moral values or academic progress would not be tolerated.
