Hearing in Delta guber Election Petition Tribunal begins Monday

Delta State Election Petition Tribunal will, today, begin pre-hearing in governorship petitions and other cases filed by candidates and political parties challenging the declaration of Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected governor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While there are several petitions challenging elections for some State Assembly and National Assembly seats, all eyes are on petitions challenging the election of Oborevwori as governor of the state.

Some of the parties challenging the outcome of the election conducted on March 18 include: the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, as well as Action Alliance, and its candidate, Esther Esevohe.

Others are Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), along with candidates of the Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Omo-Agege, in his petition, alleged fraudulent counting, collation, recording of false results and declaration of results across the 25 councils of the state, and prayed that he be declared winner of the election.

Omo-Agege ‘s motion charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to secure ballot papers used, and produce them for a re-count by the tribunal’s appointed officers assisted by representatives of parties.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court decision on the sanctity of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in checking over-voting, affirming the election of Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State is making waves across all election tribunals in the country.
