In a bold and proactive effort to combat environmental degradation and restore public hygiene in Warri, the Delta State Taskforce on Environment has intensified its enforcement campaign with a major exercise carried out around the Garage axis and Hausa Quarters in Warri South Local Government Area.
The operation, led by the Coordinator of the Taskforce, Comrade Frank Orogun, in collaboration with the Warri South Council Supervisor for Environment, Mr Femi Okorodiden, focused on clearing illegal structures, curbing indiscriminate trading, and restoring sanity to the environment.
The atmosphere was intense but purposeful as operatives of the Delta State Taskforce on Environment moved through the densely populated Garage and Hausa Quarters axis, two heavily populated areas notorious for clogged drainages, illegal structures, and roadside refuse dump, dismantling makeshift shops along pedestrian walkways, traders under high tension and service line.
Speaking during the exercise, Comrade Frank Orogun, emphasized that the operation was not to witch-hunt anyone, but to enforce existing environmental laws and prevent the recurring flooding, traffic congestion, and disease outbreaks in the area.
Comrade Orogun noted that they had informed the traders and business operators on multiple occasions to clear blocked drainages and desist from trading along pedestrian walkways, setbacks and under high tension wires.
He noted that defaulters were handed fines as some shops and offices were sealed due to their non-compliance and disregard for public health and safety.
The Coordinator Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Warri, Uvwie Udu, Okpe, and environs, said the enforcement operation was to compliment the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as he commended the Chairman of the Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Hon. Godspower Asiuwhu, for giving them the enabling environment to perform their duties.

In a chat, the Supervisor for Environment, Warri South Local Government , Mr Femi Okorodiden said the Council had earlier engaged community leaders and stakeholders, urging them to take ownership of their surroundings and support the ongoing sanitation efforts chaired by the Warri South Council Boss, Mr Weyinmi Agbateniyiro.
Mr Okorodiden said they would continue to work hand in hand with the Delta State Taskforce on Environment to ensure public spaces are kept free of obstruction and health hazards.
The initiative marks a renewed commitment by the Delta State Government to enforce environmental laws, promote a culture of cleanliness, and ensure that Warri becomes not just a commercial hub, but a healthier and more livable city for all residents.
