The Delta State Government has announced plans to establish a modern, revenue-generating printing press to serve both public sector agencies and private clients, marking a strategic shift toward self-sufficiency and cost reduction under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
During the 2026 budget defence held in Asaba, Commissioner for Works (Rural & Riverine Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, revealed that the planned facility is part of the state’s drive to reduce outsourcing, enhance efficiency, and create a sustainable income stream for government.
The project is designed to operate under a public–private partnership (PPP) model, ensuring long-term viability, quality service delivery, and robust governance oversight.
Aniagwu noted that the new printing press will support key state-owned media platforms such as The Pointer Newspapers and other government printing departments, enabling them to operate with enhanced autonomy and financial stability.
He underscored that while the project has faced delays due to a limited number of qualified procurement proposals, the government remains committed to a transparent and competitive selection process.
“We are building a facility that will serve the state and private clients, reduce costs and generate revenue,” Aniagwu stated.
The printing industry initiative forms part of the broader infrastructure and reforms agenda championed by the Oborevwori administration, emphasizing efficiency, accountability, and sustainability. Observers say this move reflects a growing recognition among sub-national governments of the need to transform legacy media and print operations into commercially viable ventures.
Mr. Aniagwu expressed confidence that the press will soon become fully operational and contribute to the financial independence of government-owned media agencies, thereby reducing budgetary pressure on the state treasury.
The proposed facility aligns with Delta State’s strategic vision of modernising institutional services, strengthening the media ecosystem, and leveraging PPPs to deliver public value. As procurement advances, stakeholders are watching closely for the tender outcomes and the timeline for the press’s rollout.
