Delta State Government to investigate encroachment of ancestral land in Ibusa

Delta State Government (DTSG) has assured the people of Umuisagba Family Union in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, that it will investigate their claim of forceful encroachment and unlawful takeover of their ancestral lands by the people of Okpanam Community.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo gave the assurance Wednesday while addressing youths of Umuisagba Family Union of Ibusa who were in Government House, Asaba, on a peaceful protest over alleged forceful encroachment and unlawful takeover of their ancestral lands by the people of Okpanam.

The chief of staff, Government House Asaba, Hon. Johnson Erijo reassured the protesting youths that the state Government will not be biased in its investigation of the situation.

He reiterated that the state Government under the Administration of Governor Oborevwori will not take sides with anybody or group of people in handling the situation.
The Chief of staff assured the Ibusa youths that their complaints would be communicated to the state Governor and emphasised that Governor Oborevwori would certainly ensure that no one is oppressed in the state.

Earlier in a letter titled “Appeal for Urgent intervention in the Forceful Encroachment and Unlawful Takeover of Umuisagba Family Land by Okpanam Community” addressed to the Governor and read by Mr. Emmanuel Ogbolu, the people of Umuisagba Family Union draw the attention of the Governor to the alleged encroachment which, they said, was capable of threatening the peace, unity, and communal harmony between Ibusa and Okpanam communities.

They alleged that the unlawful act is being carried out directly in connivance with the Surveyor General of Delta State and the Nigeria Police Force.

They appealed to the Governor to speedily intervene before the situation degenerates into a full-blown communal conflict.
