Delta State Govt Reiterates Zero Tolerance On Communal Crisis

The State Government has advised communities involved in disputes to focus on presenting facts that will foster peace rather than escalating tensions in their areas.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, gave the advice at his office in Asaba during a peace meeting between the representatives of Akpobome Community in Mosogar Kingdom and their neighbors from Jesse, in Idjerhe Kingdom, both in Ethiope West Local Government Area in response to agitations over the location of the Institute of Continuing Education ICE, reportedly sited in Mosogar land.

Chief Uzor explained that the meeting followed a formal petition submitted to the State Government by the Akpobome community, the petitioners, through their legal representatives, who claimed the disputed land which the Institute was located belongs to the Omene Royal Family of Akpobome in Mosogar which they alleged now erroneously regarded as part of Jesse.

He assured all parties that the State Government, that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, maintained a zero tolerance policy for communal crises and promised to address the matter promptly and fairly.

The Special Adviser encouraged the petitioners to provide certified documentation to support their claims, which would aid the government’s resolution efforts and promised that thorough investigations would be conducted to establish the facts.

Chief Uzor added that the petitioners have called on the State Government to officially rename the area where the school is located from Jesse to Mosogar adding that the petitioners alleged that the land was sold to individuals from Jesse Kingdom.
