Delta State Inaugurates Steering Committee on Food System Transformation

The Delta State Government has taken a major step towards strengthening food security and agricultural sustainability with the official inauguration of the Delta State Steering Committee on Food System Transformation Pathways (DTSSCFSTP).

The inauguration ceremony, held yesterday, was attended by key stakeholders in the agriculture and development sectors, with the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori represented at the event.

The establishment of the steering committee marks a significant milestone in Delta State’s ongoing efforts to reposition its food systems to meet present and future challenges.

The initiative is designed to boost food security across the state by promoting improved agricultural practices, strengthening agricultural value chains, and expanding access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food for residents.

Speaking at the event, it was noted that the Food System Transformation Pathways initiative aligns squarely with the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security.

Through this framework, the state aims to drive sustainable development, build economic resilience, and improve livelihoods, particularly for farmers, agribusiness operators, and rural communities.

The steering committee is expected to provide strategic direction, coordination, and oversight for policies and programmes that will transform the state’s food system, enhance productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure long-term sustainability.

With the inauguration of the DTSSCFSTP, the Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to agricultural transformation as a key pillar of economic growth and social wellbeing, positioning the state to better address food security challenges and support inclusive development for all Deltans.
