Knowing that we’re already in the ember months a time that has historically seen more people coming into the state and a possible rise in criminal activity the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, took a proactive step on tuesday, by holding a strategic security meeting with members of the Bankers’ Forum in the state.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria in Asaba and 39 bank heads from across the state.
The goal of the meeting was to discuss and strengthen bank security in preparation for the fast-approaching yuletide season.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the need for banks to strengthen their security measures, especially with the festive season approaching a time when criminals may try to exploit the increased activity.
He also pointed out the strategic location of the command and Asaba, which are bordered by the East, Edo, and other parts of the country, making it even more crucial to regularly review and update security strategies.
DCP Adejobi further stressed the importance of installing modern, fully functional CCTV cameras in and around banking premises to help the police effectively monitor activities and respond swiftly when needed.
The Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, praised the police command for the initiative. She added that the CBN does not release cash to banks that do not have a sufficient number of police officers assigned for specie escort.
The DCP reaffirmed the command’s dedication to tackling crime in the state, stating that the meeting is just one of many proactive steps being taken to ensure a safe and crime-free ember months.
