Delta State Public Procurement council committed to efficiency, transparency

The Delta State Public Procurement Council is dedicated to establishing a procurement system that is not only efficient but also a model for other states to emulate.

The Chairman of the Delta State Public Procurement Council, David Igbodo Esq., made this statement during a press interaction following the council’s inaugural meeting held at the Ministry of Economic Planning in Asaba.

The chairman of the public procurement council emphasized that their primary responsibility is to align all their actions with the governor’s M.O.R.E agenda, adding that the council’s role is to regulate procurement issues in the state, ensuring accountability, transparency, and value for money.

Key decisions from the inaugural meeting included strengthening the legal and institutional framework, enforcing procurement laws and guidelines, building capacity for stakeholders and procurement officers, and leveraging technology.

The Delta State Public Procurement Law aims to promote accountability, transparency, and value for money. Furthermore, gathering feedback from the public and stakeholders is crucial.

Igbodo, Esq., informed press men that the Delta State Public Procurement Council was inaugurated by the governor on December 4, 2024, and held its inaugural meeting on January 23, 2025.

The council comprise four statutory members which includes the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, first statutory member, the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, second statutory member, the third statutory member is the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen; and the fourth statutory member is the Chief Economic Advisor to the Governor, Dr. Barry Gbe.

Other members include the council’s secretary, Mr. Edwin Abraka, who is also the Director-General of the commission, as well as Mr. Daniel Venture from the non-governmental organization (NGO) and Mr. Fynecountry Goodluck, representative of the Professional Body.
