Delta State student emerges winner in National Chemistry competition

A student of Alfred Jonah International School in Sapele, Delta State, Master Sunmonu-Olatunji Abdurrahman, has won the star prize in the 2024 Annual Awokoya Memorial Chemistry competition.

Speaking to journalists on his Abdurrahmanà’s emergence, the Delta State Chairman of the Chemical Society of Nigeria. Mr. Koide Owate while thanking Chevron Nigeria Limited for their long-term sponsorship, said, “their support has been instrumental in the competition’s success, especially during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic.

 “I am thrilled to see students, teachers, parents, and the Ministry of Secondary Education committed to excellence and seeing Delta State students excelled, securing first, second, and third positions in the national competition.

Owate encouraged awardees to pursue careers in science-related fields, saying, “take your study of chemistry seriously and contribute positively to society.”

The Awokoya Memorial Chemistry Competition promotes excellence in chemistry among secondary school students, highlighting the importance of science education in Nigeria.
