The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Delta State has issued a stern warning against resisting transfers, citing potential dismissal from service as a consequence.
The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Hon (Chief) Samuel Mariere, gave the warning during a meeting with education stakeholders in Udu and Ughelli South local government areas, stressed that resistance to postings or transfers is counterproductive and will not be tolerated by the board. This warning forms part of a series of visits to all 25 local government areas in the state.
Mariere, a seasoned legal expert and former member of the Delta State Legislature, underscored the significance of adherence to government initiatives aimed at revamping the public primary education system.
Speaking directly to Head Teachers, Local Education Secretaries, and Community Leaders, Mariere emphasized the imperative of embracing change to align with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE agenda, particularly in the education sector.
He urged stakeholders to collaborate with the government to improve the quality and standards of foundational education and also safeguard public education infrastructure from vandalism.
The Chairman encouraged Head Teachers to double efforts in attracting parents to leverage the state government’s provision of free education and quality school infrastructure. He also urged Education Secretaries to establish Desk Officers in all Primary Schools for seamless information flow.
Furthermore, Mariere announced plans for orientation and induction trainings for the over three thousand newly recruited teachers, designed to equip them with the requisite skills for contemporary educational practices.
Addressing concerns raised by various trade unions, Mariere pledged to address issues such as prompt release of curriculum, registration fees for Basic Six students, and the provision of pay slips for teachers.
The initiatives of SUBEB received commendation from Heads of Personnel Management of Udu and Ughelli South local government councils, as well as Education Secretaries of respective Local Government Education Authorities.
In a final engagement at the palace of the traditional ruler of Udu kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Delekpe, Ohworhu 1, Mariere emphasized the importance of community partnership in enhancing teaching and learning, and safeguarding basic school infrastructures.
