Delta to introduce Automatic Number Plate Recognition System

The Delta State Government is planning to implement an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system to enhance traffic regulation and reduce confrontations with enforcement agencies.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Onoride Agofure, during a press briefing at the state secretariat in Asaba, following the 2025 inter-ministry budget defence.

Agofure outlined the ministry’s plans to leverage technology in driving its policies and improving the overall transportation sector in 2025.

“We are expecting a range of innovations and initiatives by 2025 to improve the transportation sector. Our goal is to incorporate more technology to advance our policies and the sector’s progress in Delta State,” he said.

He further explained the upcoming introduction of the ANPR system, which will use cameras strategically placed across key locations to detect traffic violations such as running red lights or driving unregistered vehicles.

Reflecting on the ministry’s performance, Agofure noted an impressive achievement of 60-70% in the current period.

He urged Deltans to be patient with the government, acknowledging the public’s concerns and assuring that Governor Oborevwori’s administration is working on measures to reduce the rising cost of transportation across the state.
