Widows enrolled in the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have poured encomiums on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for ensuring the timely disbursement of their October stipends, describing the gesture as a lifeline for vulnerable women across the state.

Chief Isioma Okonta, the State Coordinator of the scheme, disclosed that payments to all 10,000 verified beneficiaries were concluded between 19 and 21 October, in strict compliance with the governor’s directive.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, Okonta commended Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering consistency in prioritising the welfare of widows, stressing that the monthly stipends have brought renewed hope and tangible relief to thousands of households.

“The governor has kept faith with his promise. This is not a one-off gesture; it is a sustained commitment to the most vulnerable in our society,” Okonta said.

he further revealed that full enrollment under the scheme has been achieved, while registration for the complementary Free Health Care Service for widows is in its final stages.

The health initiative, he noted, will provide comprehensive medical coverage at no cost to beneficiaries.

Several widows who spoke anonymously expressed profound gratitude, with many offering prayers for divine guidance, wisdom, and strength for Governor Oborevwori as he continues to implement people-oriented programmes under his MORE Agenda.

Since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori has placed premium on social intervention programmes, with the Widows Welfare Scheme emerging as one of the flagship initiatives aimed at cushioning the economic hardship faced by bereaved women in Delta State.
