The Delta State Government has once again assured residents that their welfare remains the top priority of the current administration, stressing that only durable and high-quality projects will be executed for the benefit of the people.
The assurance was given by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Sir Festus Ahon, on Christmas Day. He spoke while hosting members of the Delta State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), who paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Ughelli, the headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Ahon said the Oborevwori administration remains firmly committed to people-centred governance, despite the extensive infrastructural and developmental needs across the state. According to him, the government considers citizens’ welfare non-negotiable and fundamental to sustainable development, a stance clearly reflected in the many capital projects and social programmes currently underway across Delta State.
He noted that the governor has recorded remarkable achievements within two years, surpassing what some state governments have accomplished over much longer periods. Ahon described the projects as long-lasting and purposefully designed to endure for generations, adding that Deltans deserve real value for every initiative carried out by the administration.
The CPS further emphasised that the government has maintained strong fiscal discipline, pointing out that all ongoing projects are being funded without resorting to loans. He stressed that the governor would never compromise the welfare of the people and that no project is being executed with borrowed funds.
Ahon thanked the NUJ leadership for the visit and called for continued collaboration with the media in fostering peace, stability and good governance. He assured journalists of the administration’s ongoing support, noting that development flourishes best in an atmosphere of harmony.
Describing the governor as media-friendly, Ahon said efforts would continue to improve the welfare of journalists in the state. He also assured the NUJ leadership that their requests would be considered, reiterating that his office remains accessible to the union at all times.
Earlier, Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, explained that the visit was to appreciate Governor Oborevwori and the CPS for their inclusive and improved support for journalists, especially during the Christmas season.
Oyowe said the recent gesture by the state government, delivered through the CPS, reached all NUJ chapels across the state, describing it as unprecedented and highly appreciated. He appealed for the continuation of the goodwill and reminded Ahon of the council’s pending requests for a utility bus and a 200kva step-down transformer.
“Today, we are simply here to say thank you,” Oyowe said. “Every chapel felt the generosity of the state government through your office. Gratitude matters, and that is why we came personally to appreciate you. May God bless you and our governor for all you continue to do.”
