Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has commenced the de-silting of major drainages in Ika Nation to prevent seasonal flooding.
The DESOPADEC Board Member representing Ika ethnic nationality, Hon. Cordelia Anyangwu, while supervising the de-silting at Dein’s Palace Junction in Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, said the project aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration’s priority on flood control and infrastructure protection.
The project spans key locations across Ika land, including Agbor-Obi in Ika South, Owa-Ekei Road in Ika North East, and the Abavo drainage opening in Ika South.
Comrade Iweka Kingsley, who leads the Commission’s excavation team, assured that the de-silting would be completed by the weekend, as directed by DESOPADEC Chairman Olorogun John Nani and Managing Director Chief Festus Ochonogor.
Residents in the community appreciated the the Commission for the “massive work” being done. Also, Comrade Igbenigun Clement, Secretary of Agbor Youths, lauded Hon. Anyangwu’s dedication in pushing for cleaner, flood-free environments.
