DESOPADEC Distributes Mobility Aids to PWDs in Delta

As part of its continued work to help people in the areas it serves, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, known as DESOPADEC, has once again shown its support for people with disabilities by giving out devices and mobility tools to those in need in oil-producing communities.

On April 1st, 2026, the Executive Director of Finance and Administration at DESOPADEC, Chief Oghenekome Reginald Okpobor, spoke on behalf of the Board.

He welcomed members of the disability community from the areas DESOPADEC covers at the Commission’s headquarters. He thanked them for coming and sharing their concerns and promised that DESOPADEC is committed to helping the people with disabilities make up around 20% of the registered voters in the state and assured DESOPADEC of their support in the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial elections.

Comrade Obruche also praised the DESOPADEC Board for being welcoming to people with disabilities.
He pointed out that the group hasn’t protested, showing they are satisfied. He also urged the government to follow the Disability Act more strictly and to improve accessibility in public places.

During the event, several items were given to the beneficiaries, including six artificial limbs, 25 wheelchairs, 35 armpit crutches, 35 elbow crutches, 10 hearing aids, and 32 guide canes for the visually impaired.
This helped bring comfort and hope to the people receiving the support.
