DESOPADEC Launches Bursary Program to Support Indigent Students in Its Mandate Areas.

Indigent students from the areas covered by DESOPADEC who are studying in colleges and universities across the country have have started receiving bursary support from the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

This effort is being managed well by DESOPADEC’s Board Chairman, Chief John Nani, and the MD/CEO, Chief Festus Ochonogor.

The Executive Director of Social Services, Chief Favour Izoukumor, shared with the DESOPADEC media that for many years, DESOPADEC has worked hard to bring happiness to people in oil-producing areas through programmes such as supporting women and youth, and offering scholarships, among other things.

This has always been her main goal, matching the M.O.R.E agenda of His Excellency Rt.Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori. She stressed that investing in education is the best gift we can give the youth, who will become the leaders of the future.

Chief Izoukumor also said that the process for selecting bursary recipients was very detailed and fair. All eligible students from the local communities had plenty of chances to apply online. Once the selection was done, everyone is now happy and thanking Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his kind support.

The Head of the Social Services Department, Mr. Jude Elaye Asiobe, added that this year, a total of eight thousand students are benefiting from the bursary.

Out of these, two thousand are from the Urhobo community, and Itsekiri and Ijaw each have one thousand five hundred students. Ndokwa, Isoko, and Ika communities each have one thousand students receiving support. He also praised the Board for quickly giving the bursaries to the right students.

Some of the students who received the bursary, Miss Fega Obonobor and Miss Agbateyiniro Nina Bright, thanked DESOPADEC for the hard work they are doing to support students in their area. They said the bursary will help them a lot with their financial problems.
