The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has confirmed that disbursement of its ₦50,000 bursary scheme to students will commence in August 2025.
The announcement was made by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Festus Ochonogor, during a press briefing following the Commission’s Governing Board meeting held on Thursday, at its headquarters in Warri, Delta State.
Chief Ochonogor disclosed that the shortlisting of qualified beneficiaries is currently ongoing and will be completed by the end of July. He stated that the ₦50,000 bursary amount was approved by the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in consideration of the current economic climate and in support of students from oil-producing communities.
Beyond the bursary programme, the DESOPADEC boss announced plans to begin commissioning completed projects across various mandate areas. These projects, he said, highlight the Commission’s developmental strides in infrastructure and service delivery within the host communities.
Speaking on contractor-related issues, Chief Ochonogor urged contractors to remain patient, assuring them that payments are being made for certified completed projects. “No contractor is being ignored. Payments are processed as verifications are completed,” he affirmed.
He also praised the existing cordial relationship between the Commission’s management and staff, describing it as key to the Commission’s continued success. “Peace and cooperation within the system are critical to our progress,” he noted, reiterating the board’s commitment to fulfilling DESOPADEC’s developmental mission.
