The Uvwie Kingdom in Delta State is gearing up for a colourful week-long celebration to mark the 18th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, Abe I, JP, OON.
The festivities will begin on February 7 and run through February 18, with highlights including a 21-gun salute, the conferment of chieftaincy titles, and the official presentation of the Ovie’s biography titled “Odyssey of Royalty: The Reign of Abe I, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom.”
Speaking on behalf of the palace, Chief Omafume Amurun, media consultant to the Ovie and a member of the organising committee, said the celebration is expected to be a grand event. Prominent personalities such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, members of the Houses of Assembly, ministers, commissioners, traditional rulers, and other distinguished guests are expected to grace the occasion.
Over the past 18 years, the Ovie’s reign has been characterised by peace, stability, and steady socio-economic growth, including the expansion of traditional administrative units from four to nine.
Renowned for its rich cultural heritage and welcoming people, the Uvwie Kingdom has grown into a major commercial and industrial centre in Delta State. The anniversary celebration will reflect the kingdom’s history, traditions, and the monarch’s vision for continued progress.
Uvwie Local Government Area is home to key towns and communities such as Effurun, Ekpan, Enerhen, Ugboroke, Ugbomro, and Ugborikoko, among others, all linked by major road networks.
Reports also note that Uvwie is one of the 24 traditional kingdoms in Urhoboland and serves as a strategic gateway to Nigeria’s South-South geopolitical zone. It shares boundaries with Warri, Udu, Agbarho, and Okpe, placing it at the centre of regional movement and connectivity.
