The people of Eghono Village, Okuama, in Ughelli South Local Government Area, have appealed to the Delta State Government to intervene in the burning of their village by unidentified arsonists.
They made the appeal during a peaceful protest.
Eghono is a village under Okuama community in Ewu kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Speaking at the peaceful protest, the acting president general of Okuama community, Mr Okrika Emmanuel, Mr Obuge Moses, and Mr Alex Idiaphoro, said they have been receiving threat messages from some persons, claiming that they are the owners of their land, asking them to vacate the village.
They explained that Eghono village has been in existence for decades, and has never been challenged over land issues with anyone.
They explained further that before getting to Olota community, there is Akugbene community, but wonder how and why Olota community is claiming ownership of their village.
They informed that they were surprised to return from their village on Saturday, 13th December 2025, to see all their houses and property burnt to the ground.
They appealed to the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to wade into the issue, stressing that they are law-abiding and peaceful people, who prefer peace to reign.
