To mark the Eid-el-fitr celebration, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays.
Declaration of the two-day break to celebrate the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, was made on behalf of the federal government by the Minister of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Congratulating the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting period, Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to fostering national unity.
He also reiterated federal government’s dedication to peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
The minister who revealed this in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, further tasked the Muslims on sustaining the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice, as emphasizes during the holy month of Ramadan.
Extending his warm greetings and wishing Muslim faithful a joyful Eid-el-fitr celebration,Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to, “use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity and prosperity of the country.
“Citizens should celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.”
