The persistent traffic congestion at PTI Junction in Effurun, Delta State, caused by reckless driving and improper parking, particularly by tricycles, has caught the attention of the Director General of the Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA), Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere.
In response, Ejinyere said he has initiated steps to address the issue.
On Tuesday, Hon. Ejinyere, accompanied by Uvwie Local Government Chairman, Chief Anthony Ofoni, and the Chairman of the Delta State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Chief Francis Ariyo, visited the PTI Junction to assess the situation firsthand and explore solutions to the traffic problem.
The team, which included officials from Julius Berger—responsible for the ongoing flyover project at the junction—conducted an on-the-spot evaluation.
They proposed creating temporary parking spaces along both the PTI Road and Osubi Road axes, away from the junction, as a temporary solution until the completion of the flyover, after which a permanent parking facility would be established.
Julius Berger’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Sambo, and site engineer, Sylvester Opara, expressed their gratitude to the DG and his team for their visit, noting that the traffic congestion was hindering the progress of the ongoing project.
“We will communicate this matter to our superiors for further action,” the officials said.
Prince Ejinyere assured that, with the collaboration of key stakeholders, including himself, Chief Ofoni, and Chief Ariyo, alongside Julius Berger’s officials, the traffic situation would soon improve.
He also commended Julius Berger for its consistent record of quality work, urging the company to complete the flyover project promptly and according to the established standards.
