Leaders of Ugboegungun Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have written the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, accusing the company of disregarding a purported employment and contract sharing agreement of 70/30 percent earlier signed between Ugborodo and Ugboegungun Communities.
The Ugboegungun leaders, in a petition addressed to the General Manager, Policy Government and Public Affair, PGPA, Chevron Nigeria Limited, claimed that the said pact, was signed sometime in the year 2017 at Government House, Warri, in the presence of Delta state government, Officials of Chevron Nigeria limited as well as of leaders of Ugborodo and Ugboegungun Communities.
In the petition, which was dated Friday April 5 and signed by the Ex-Trust chairman of Ugboegungun Community, Chief John Ibokiti as well as two Opinion leaders of the community, Tosan Edah and Mrs. Elisabeth Uku, the Ugboegungun indigenes, noted: “Several letters have been written and few conversations have been made, with little or no response.”
Ugboegungun leaders, stated: “I hope this open letter finds you in good health as we write to frown at your insincerity in dealing with the Ugboegungun community, which is one of your host communities regarding the above subject matter.
“Sir, you will recall that sometime in 2017 at Government House, Warri in the Presence of Delta state government, Chevron Nig limited, the Ugborodo community and the Ugboegungun community, we did sign an agreement for the sharing formula of 70/30 per cent of both employment and contract that comes to the host communities. This is particularly the Ugborodo field.
“But since then, it has been a total disregard for the above-mentioned agreement, with just lip services and nothing to show for it. Several letters have been written and few conversations have been made with little or no response.
“We are calling on you to give full implementation to this agreement now that it has not led to problems in your operation.
“We have written to security agents to hold you responsible for any breach of peace that will halt your operations in our area.
“Act now before it gets too late for us all. Ugboegungun sons and daughters are ready to fight for her destiny now or never.
“We will not give a further ultimatum or warning to your organization if we choose to go in the ‘language’ you understand.”
