The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Godwin Adode, has been applauded by a former captain of Super Sheraton Football Club of Ughelli, Mr Emmanuel Kporharor, for embarking on mass rehabilitation of the Ughelli Township Stadium.
Kporharor said the local council boss’ ongoing renovation and maintenance of Ughelli Township Stadium is in line with the MORE Agenda of the present state government in Delta.’
Speaking with journalists in Ughelli, he noted with concern that the stadium and its support facilities had ‘been in a total state of dilapidation and abandonment over the years, whereas the Delta State government has been paying someone monthly for the maintenance of the sports facilities.’
Kpohraror submitted that ‘revamping the stadium will go a long way in facilitating the much-needed talent hunt that will take the teeming youths off the streets.’
He added that it would also stem the high level of criminality in the locality, noting that sports was a unifying factor.
He, therefore, appealed to members of the public in the local government area to contribute their quota to the development of sports in the council area and the state at large.
He specifically called on the Delta State government and Nigerians as a whole to come to the aid of Ughelli Local Government in its ongoing efforts to give the Township Stadium a facelift.
