Former Delta North Senator, Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, has passed away at the age of 68. His death marks the loss of a prominent figure in Delta State politics and Nigerian public life.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State mourned the late senator, describing his passing as a “great loss” to the Anioma people, Delta State, and Nigeria at large.” Oborevwori praised Nwaoboshi’s contributions to the development of the Niger Delta region and his efforts as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.
Senator Nwaoboshi represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate from 2015 to 2023.
His political career spanned decades, including leadership roles in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2021. He remained an influential voice in Delta politics even after leaving the Senate.

His career, however, was not without controversy. In 2022, Nwaoboshi was convicted by the Court of Appeal for money laundering, but the verdict was later overturned by the Supreme Court in 2023, clearing him of all charges.
Senator Nwaoboshi is remembered for his legislative work, advocacy for Niger Delta development, and enduring influence in Delta State politics. His death leaves a notable void in the region’s political landscape.
